280 High Holborn occupies the site of the former Chichester House, opposite MidCity Place on High Holborn, and to the south, opens onto Whetstone Park.
The architectural design responds to three very different urban environments:
The north-facing main elevation is clad in a restrained, limestone and glass facade addressing High Holborn.
To the east of the development lies Great Turnstile, which was a narrow pedestrian alleyway linking the contrasting environments of High Holborn and Lincoln’s Inn Fields.
The six residential units are located at the junction of Great Turnstile and Whetstone Park, making the most of the views towards Lincoln’s Inn Fields.
The development will provide some 67,000 square feet of office space, including 3,000 square feet of retail, on individual floor plates that vary from 7,000-9,400 square feet and are designed to suit a range of occupiers. The project is targeting a BREEAM Excellent rating for sustainability.
280 High Holborn
This mixed-use development for Hines UK is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion in September 2012. The eight-story building will be mainly offices entered from High Holborn, where there will also be ground-level retail to provide an active frontage. Six south-facing residential units are included overlooking Whetstone Park and Lincoln’s Inn Fields beyond.
